Go Build Tennessee 2016–2017 Recap
"Go Build Tennessee Touts Success in Encouraging Building Careers”
– TN Ledger (August, 18, 2017)
Go Build Tennessee is a collaboration between the Tennessee chapters of the Associated General Contractors, Associated Builders and Contractors, Home Builders, and Road Builders associations. The program reaches and interacts with young people and their influencers on multiple touchpoints with one seamless message: opportunity awaits in Tennessee’s construction industry.
Go Build Tennessee was launched on May 18, 2016 to enhance the image of the construction industry and inspire young people to consider a career in the skilled trades. In the first year, here is how we have highlighted the career pathways, promoted training programs, and shared our industry’s successes to change the hearts and minds of Tennesseans young and old.
Go Build Tennessee "Ambassadors"
“I was aware of Go Build through seeing the campaign online. I knew after seeing the campaign that the construction and skilled trades industries could be a rewarding and extremely wise choice when choosing a future career.”
– Jay Cardwell (Hendersonville, TN), April 2017 Ambassador [pictured above, center]
The need for skilled labor is greater than ever. Nashville has more cranes in it's skyline than New York City and this April, Governor Haslam and the Tennessee legislature passed the IMPROVE Act that, among many important initiatives, provided funding for nearly 1,000 road and bridge projects across the state – work to be done by Tennessee’s skilled tradesman. Go Build Tennessee fills the critical role between accomplishing state workforce development or infrastructure goals and ensuring there is a strong and steady labor force.
Our efforts during the last year actively engaging and interacting with young people and their influencers have been significant. Construction companies, tradesmen, and associations now have a rallying cry and platform to celebrate their industry; parents are enthusiastically sharing our message with their children and relatives daily, and students are responding to the opportunities in Tennessee’s construction industry both online and in-person with awe, eagerness and a newfound interest. All of this is only now possible through Go Build.

"College or construction? The answer is getting tougher" – TN Ledger (August, 18, 2017)
“An important message we communicate at Go Build is that there are honorable, viable, sustainable career paths in the skilled trades, and it’s not just the common misperception of being a fallback career choice or just seasonal work. With the proper training, there are endless career opportunities throughout the state and country…”

“Tennessee is often ranked among the best for economic development and business climate. To remain competitive we need to prepare our citizens to meet workforce demands, including the demands in the construction industry.
Go Build Tennessee will encourage young people to consider careers in the skilled trades and inform the next generation of workers about career opportunities and training programs available to them.”
– Gov. Bill Haslam (May 18, 2016)
