Go Build Tennessee April 2018 Ambassador: Austin Cox

“Go Build Ambassadors” exemplify the spirit of Go Build as the proud, elite group helping to build a better tomorrow. As the future of our country’s construction industry, they understand there’s nothing they can’t accomplish with their own two hands: they are the keys to their own success, providers for society’s progress, and catalysts for change. Congrats to our April 2018 Go Build Tennessee Ambassador, Austin Tyler Cox of Johnson City.

Mike Working

Name:  Austin Tyler Cox

Hometown: Johnson City, TN

Hobbies: Fishing & woodworking

Training Program: Northeast State Community College

Certification: HVAC and Machine Tool

Favorite Training Activity: I love OSHA training. I’ve done it three times and it's fascinating to see what really goes on in the workplace.

What inspired you to pursue a career in the skilled trades? I've always been drawn to hands-on work. Participating in training programs that allow me to go out into the field and actually see what a career entails has made me passionate about the skilled trades.

What are your plans after completing your training? I plan on finding a great job within the construction trades so I can provide for my family.

For young people who might be considering a career in construction, what advice would you share?  The best way to determine whether the skilled trades are the right path for you is by going out there and getting hands-on training and on-the-job experience.

Why are campaigns like Go Build Tennessee important in changing perceptions about the construction industry and telling young people about the many careers in the skilled trades?  Go Build talks face-to-face with high school and college students. As an ambassador, I'm proud to be part of a family that connects with young people and shares information on opportunities in the skilled trades. More students should know it doesn’t take a four-year college degree to make good money and do what you love.
