ABOUT THE TRAINING
The Chattanooga Electrical Joint Apprenticeship & Training Committee (JATC) is jointly sponsored by International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) and National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA). The Chattanooga Apprenticeship and Training Center is providing cutting-edge training to create the finest electricians throughout the entire electrical industry. Our instructors are qualified through certification to introduce the newest technological programs to our apprentices.
During the application period, applications are taken Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 11:00 am and 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Except for a $25.00 application fee, registration fees and the purchase of textbooks, the cost of the classroom training is paid for by the JATC. The JATC will pick up teacher, facility and other administrative cost. In return, the apprentice will be asked to sign a Scholarship Loan Agreement whereby he/she agrees to work for a NECA/IBEW contractor for five (5) years after completion or reimburse the JATC for the cost of the classroom training. A working knowledge of algebra is necessary to be able to keep pace with the classroom work.
The jurisdiction (working area) of Local Union 175 IBEW covers approximately a 75 mile radius from Chattanooga. This means if you are selected for the Apprentice Program, you need to make a commitment to work the assigned jobs in the jurisdiction regardless of the location. This is not only a mental commitment to be able to work any location in the jurisdiction, but also a financial commitment to have dependable transportation to travel to and from a job and school.
