ABOUT THE TRAINING

The Knoxville PHCC Apprentice Training Program was founded in 1988 by a group of contractors in the Plumbing, HVAC and Sheet Metal fields who desired to expand the knowledge and development of skills of their employees. The school is governed by a group of PHCC contractor member Trustees. The training program employs industry professionals as instructors and is administered by the Knox County Career & Technical Education department. The program is designed for students working in the Plumbing, HVAC and Sheet Metal crafts to supplement their on-the-job training with classroom instruction.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Applications must be sent to the TN PHCC office, address on the reverse of this brochure and can be downloaded from the taphcc.com website. Applicants must: Be at least 18 years old at the time of enrollment; Be a high school graduate or have a GED certificate (documentation required); Have a good math aptitude; Pass an employer drug test/physical and be
physically able to perform the work of the trade; Authorized to legally work in the U.S.

ADDITIONAL INFO

Apprentices are expected to learn how to do tasks through on the job training and to learn why tasks are performed in specific ways through classroom instruction. The training requires basic knowledge about tools, safety, technology, codes, legal requirements, etc….which are critical to anyone that works in the trade. This program is certified by the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training, and approved by the Veterans Administration under the GI Bill.
